Priorities from the LWV District 2 Candidate Forum

On April 5, the League of Women Voters of Richardson hosted a thoughtful discussion about the challenges and opportunities ahead for RISD. Thank you to the League for hosting this important and much-needed event for our RISD voters. I appreciate their commitment to nonpartisan communication and the opportunity to share my priorities: supporting student achievement and strengthening communication across our district.

I believe deeply in the strength of our schools—and in the students, educators and families who make RISD such a special community. That’s why I’m committed to:

  1. Protecting nonpartisan school board elections. This is how we ensure that decisions remain focused on students, not politics. RISD voters deserve open, community-centered conversations without outside partisan or special interest influence.

  2. Supporting all of our high schools—including Berkner—by asking the hard questions and being part of finding a solution. Berkner currently has more than twice the number of student transfers compared to any other high school in RISD. As we keep a focus on building utilization and operational efficiency, we have to understand why these numbers look different and work together to ensure every RISD campus is known for high student achievement.

  3. Strengthening communication and transparency. We need better systems for listening to every neighborhood, every family and every stakeholder—and making sure that input shapes the path forward. If we know that district committees don't engage all communities equally, we shouldn't rely on them as our primary way to get input on district decisions.

I believe RISD can and should be a district known for excellence at every level, and I’m ready to serve our district with that vision in mind.
